Under the Spotlight: Adrian Innes, Business Funding Adviser
At UMi, we love shining a light on the people who help make it easier for businesses to do more and go further. This month, we’re getting to know Adrian Innes, one of our Business Funding Advisers within the UMi Get Funding team.
What is your role at UMi?
I work as a Business Funding Adviser, supporting SME customers who are looking for finance. My role involves fully exploring their funding needs, taking the time to understand their goals and challenges and then identifying suitable funding solutions to help them move forward.
Tell us about your career to date
I began my career with the Royal Bank of Scotland as a Customer Service Agent in October 1985. Within 18 months, I relocated to Aberdeen, where I progressed through a range of roles including Customer Service Adviser, Mortgage Adviser, Financial Planning Consultant and ultimately Branch Manager.
From there, I moved into a Senior Business Development Manager role and transferred to Edinburgh in 2003. In 2006, I joined Clydesdale Bank as a Business Development Manager before being promoted to Senior Partner, a role I held until 2017.
I then joined Edinburgh‑based LendingCrowd as Team Manager, where I played a key role in growing the lending book from £3 million to £30 million per year. After that, I led a sales team within the lending sector before joining UMi, bringing with me decades of experience across banking, business development and funding.
What does your current role involve?
As a Business Funding Adviser within the Get Funding service, I support SME customers by helping them navigate their funding options. My role includes exploring their needs in detail, understanding what they want to achieve and finding tailored finance solutions that fit their circumstances.
What makes UMi Get Funding different?
At UMi Get Funding, we search the whole of the market to find the most suitable solution for each customer. Alongside sourcing finance, we also offer grant advice and investment guidance. This means businesses receive a package of support rather than a single option, helping them make confident and informed decisions.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me on the golf course. Golf is a big part of my life and it’s my favourite way to spend a weekend. I also enjoy holidays and taking time away to explore new places.
And finally, tell us one interesting fact about yourself
I’ve been Captain at Prestonfield Golf Club and served on the committee for 13 years.
I spent 20 years as Chairman of the PBC Foundation, a local charity.
And I’ve run four marathons, including two in London and two in Edinburgh.
